Hawaii state flag was adopted in 1859. Hawaii state flag is the only flag in the United States to include Great Britain’s Union Jack, it has been used throughout its history as different types of institutions as kingdom, a British protectorate, republic, an American territory and, finally, a state. The eight stripes represent the eight islands. The flag was first adopted by King Kamehameha I in 1816 and was modified later by a commander of the Royal Hawaiian Navy.
