Iowa state flag was adopted in 1921. The Iowa flag is very similar to the French flag by design. It is meant to signify the state’s history as part of the Louisiana territory. But the display of a bald eagle represents that the state is American. The flag represented the Iowa troops during World War I. An alternative flag was designed by the Daughters of the American Revolution as well. This flag was created by Dixie Cornell Gebhardt. It was also approved by the Iowa State Council for Defense in 1917. It was officially comissioned as the state flag in 1921.
